Impact of Electronic Aid to Daily Living (EADL) on Activities of Daily Living: A Systematic Review

Abstract

|
Objective: This study systematically reviews the impact of Electronic Aid to Daily Living (EADL) on activities ofdaily living and provides a useful foundation for establishing intervention strategies for local occupationaltherapists.
Methods: Using the Riss, EMbase, NDSL, and Web of Science databases, we searched for EADL in Journals fromJanuary 2001 to December 2020. The quality of the study was evaluated using the Critical Evaluation TechnologyProgram (CASP) checklist. Quantitative studies were conducted to analyze the features, dependent variables, andevaluation methods of intervention programs, and qualitative studies incorporated the experience of EADL usersinto a meta-synthesis.
Results: Among the nine papers selected, five were quantitative studies, three were qualitative studies, and one wasan integrated study combining quantitative and qualitative studies. The EADL client showed the most spinal cordinjuries, and was applied to kitchens, bedrooms, toilets, living rooms, and front doors. Dependent variables werethe most frequent factors in activities of daily life. The experience of EADL users has been shown in threesynthetic themes: 1) hassles caused by EADL, 2) adaptation to EADL, and 3) air-like EADL.
Conclusion: EADL is an effective intervention strategy based on improvements in daily life, an improved quality oflife, and high user satisfaction among physically constrained disabled and elderly people. To apply EADL to thestandard of living functions of various clients, from hospitals to communities, the role of occupational therapists isimportant and is expected to be used as basic data for establishing a domestic institutional framework.
